Apple implements change to iTunes Store purchase process, makes it more secure

In an effort to avoid hijacking of iTunes accounts, Apple changed the way purchases are made from the iTunes Stores. Now, every time users want to purchase something for the first time on a device that never used before, they will be asked to confirm the credit card security code. Users are presented with the following message: “You account has been accessed from a new computer or device and you must verify your payment info before you can make purchases”. After the credit card security code is confirmed, users will be able to complete the download/purchase, and continue using their account as previously. This makes it much harder for people, thieves and hackers to make fraud purchases because now one must confirm credit card information to make a purchase on a new device instead of just the password.

Apple was hit with iTunes account hijacking early in the month when an iOS developers made unauthorized credit card charges in order to boost sales of his apps. The developer was removed from Apple’s Developers program and also his applications removed from the App Store.
