‘Leaking light around the edges’ the problem with the White iPhone 4

Bookmark and Share

A new report suggests that the reason Apple is delaying White iPhone 4 devices is because the back light leaking from the edges of the glass. “Apparently, the back light from the iPhone display screen is leaking out around the edges of the glass and seeping through the back of the white phone, according to a person familiar with the manufacturing process. Skeptics scoffed, calling it a white lie invented to hide the fact that Apple was actually suspending production to make a significant internal fix to the ongoing antenna defect. And while that may still be the case, the light seepage presents a very specific problem to the white phone since it is far more transparent than black,” the report said.

Apple announced the delay of iPhone 4 devices back in June saying that “White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July”. Then, in July, a second announcement came saying that White iPhone 4 devices will not be available until “later this year”.

Yeah right. After months of making prototypes and test models – one of which was seen on ITN news on day black iPhone 4 was first sold – suddenly they have an issue. Anyone with a brain knows its the antenna issue and they dont want a repeat of the media sh** storm that happened with the black iPhone 4.

Fact remains that in my mind, any mobile phone manufacturer who puts a bare metal antenna on the outside of the phone isnt a real mobile phone manufacturer, they are just pretending.

I would agree if the delay appeared in the last couple of weeks. White iPhone 4 is not in mass production since day 1, before the antenna/reception issue came up. So, I think there is actually a problem with the glass or something else.

I agree. It definitely has to do with something other than the antenna/reception issue because they weren’t even available for pre-order. And that was before everyone start making an uproar about the antenna. I’m actually glad I went ahead and pre-ordered the black instead of waiting for the white iPhone to appear. With my particular iPhone 4, the bars that drop are alarming but I’ve dropped maybe 1 call since June 24th when I got the new iPhone. I think people just made a huge deal about it not appearing as though they had great reception and not with the actual reception itself. I highly doubt that the delay has anything to do with correcting the antenna “problem” as Apple denied the antenna having any problems whatsoever.

So what if it’s a cover. Either way they are delaying the phone to fix one ore more problems. Who cares if you have to wait longer. I would rather wait until all the bugs are fixed and the phone work fine then for them to release it tomorrow and it still not work properly. Trust I want the new white phone as much as the next person but I will wait.
