The Wall Street Journal reports that Deutsche Telekom’s exclusive agreement to sell the iPhone in Germany will come to an end in October. As a result Vodafone and O2 are already in negotiations with Apple.

Deutsche Telekom AG will lose exclusivity for Apple Inc.’s iPhone in Germany ahead of the holiday shopping season, bringing the number of providers that sell the device in the country to three, people familiar with the matter said.

Vodafone Group PLC and Telefónica SA’s O2 will sell the iPhone in addition to Deutsche Telekom, the people said Thursday. One said that deals haven’t been finalized, but added that negotiations are in an advanced stage. Deutsche Telekom’s exclusive rights to sell the device haven’t been extended and could end as early as October, posing a threat to growth in the company’s home market.

Is this an indication of what might happen in US? Rumors of Apple creating iPhones for US carriers other than AT&T exist for a long time. John Gruber reported that Apple is already testing a Verizon iPhone. In addition a report said that Apple and T-Mobile talks are in an advanced stage. The first Verizon iPhone report came back in March when a Wall Street Journal report suggested that Apple would start mass producing CDMA iPhones in September. In addition, DigiTimes reported that Pegatron already received order for 10 million CDMA iPhone devices.
