Apple cleans spam and fake accounts from Ping

When Ping launched last week, multiple spam messages appeared in users and artists pages. In addition, as iTunes doesn’t require a credit card to create an account, multiple face accounts appeared, including Steve Jobs and Jony Ive. Ping today looks clean of any spam and these fake accounts seems to be deleted. We will have to see if Apple took any extra measures to prevent similar issues in the future.

Apple also made some changes to the user interface of Ping by adding “back” and “forward” buttons. The buttons make it easier for users to navigate the Ping service, which can only be accessed through iTunes.

Ping launched on September 1st and Apple announced that more than one million users activated their Ping account in the first 48 hours. Ping is Apple’s software-based music orientated social networking service. The service allows users to follow artists and see short timely postings by both friends and artists. Ping is also accessible via iTunes for iPhone and iPod Touch.
