It looks like the next generation iPad (iPad 3) will support the latest mobile broadband technology, 4G LTE. A Wall Street Journal report today suggests that both Verizon and AT&T will sell the new iPad that is scheduled to go on sale next month.

Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats up.

Apple Inc. appears to be planning to announce the latest version of its tablet computer in the first week of March, according to another person briefed on the matter.

Whether other carriers will also sell the device couldn’t be learned. Sprint Nextel Corp., T-Mobile USA and Apple declined to comment.

It is believed that Apple will announce iPad 3 on March 7 with availability to come just a couple of weeks later. Other than 4G LTE support, iPad 3 is expected to come with a new quad-core A6 processor, high resolution 2048 x 1536 display and better camera. There are also rumors that Apple is working on a 8-inch iPad although it doesn’t look like that this device will come this year.

Finally, providing that Apple found a way to work around the the high power consumption of the 4G LTE chip, we should expect the same technology to come with the next generation iPhone, iPhone 5, this summer.
